Chronic stress is the label given to the ongoing, relentless uncomfortable feeling you’re experiencing caused by the build-up of stress hormones in your body over time.

Chronic stress is bad for your long term physical and mental health (see below). But you already know that, and that’s why you’re here.

What causes stress hormones to build up in your body?

When our innate survival operating system (SOS) identifies a threat to our wellbeing it activates the stressor response and hormones are released into our bloodstream. The hormones instantly start to change our body so it is prepared to enable us to either escape the danger we're facing, or fight for our lives. 

When we take flight, or fight, we burn up the stress hormones that have been released. This process works well when we are faced with a physical danger. However, most of the dangers our SOS identifies and responds to in the 21C are not threats to our physical wellbeing but, threats to our emotional wellbeing. As such, in most cases, flight or fight action is not possible or appropriate (e.g., it would be inappropriate to punch your boss who's just criticised your work). 

When we don't burn up all the stress hormones released by activation of the stressor response and those remaining hormones don't have sufficient time to be reabsorbed before the next stressor response is activated, they just accumulate in our body. The name given to this gradual build up is 'chronic stress.'

The impact of chronic stress

We all have our own personal threshold for how much stress hormone build-up we can cope with before we start to experience the consequences of chronic stress.

Chronic stress has short term and long term consequences.

Short Term 

This list is not meant to be exhaustive. Each of us will experience chronic stress in our own way.

muscle tension

This powerful, unique program has evolved from my experience of working with hundreds of people to reduce their stress and anxiety over the last decade. The program incorporates a range of effective, proven, methodologies, tools and techniques including hypnosis. Research has found that when hypnosis is combined with other therapeutic and coaching techniques, better and more rapid results are achieved.

Live Sessions

You have the option of 3, 5 or 7  sessions. The first session is 90 minutes and subsequent sessions are 60 minutes.


Between sessions you will have some assignments to complete. These involve practicing techniques, listening to mp3s.

Self Hypnosis 

The HYPNOSIS4STRESS Program utilises hypnosis as the vehicle for change. I will teach you how to practice self-hypnosis so you have the ability to change the way you think, feel and behave.

Hypnosis Recordings

The program includes a set of hypnosis recordings that are tailored to you. The recordings help both to create change and to consolidate the changes you make during the program.
