What qualifies me to help people master anxiety?

Like most people I’ve had my share of anxiety. In fact it was one particular painful and frightening anxiety experience that was the catalyst for my becoming a coach, specialising in anxiety and stress management. Never wanting to feel so bad again I set out to learn all I could about anxiety and stress and to share my knowledge and expertise with others.

Since becoming a coach I’ve helped many people develop the life skills they need to master anxiety. I’ve even written a book on the subject – “7 Ways to Reduce Anxiety in Less than 7 Minutes.”

It’s important to note that the objective when mastering anxiety is not to eliminate it from your life. It’s only human to feel anxious sometimes. Anxiety is a natural and key part of our survival kit – it stops us from taking foolhardy risks and getting injured or killed as a result.

However, when anxiety strikes at inappropriate times it can be stop us dead in our tracks and stop us from living life to the full. And when it gets out of control and begins to interfere with everyday life, it can become as disabling as any chronic illness. It can feel like your life is spiralling out of control and you will never regain control. That’s how I felt, back then, before I learnt how to master my anxiety.

When anxiety gets out of control it’s labelled a disorder. Anxiety disorders come in different guises: generalised anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorders, traumas. One thing they all have in common is – they stop you living and enjoying life as much as you would like to.
