There’s a fundamental difference between thriving and surviving.

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”

~Maya Angelou – American poet, singer and civil rights activist.

Surviving is doing what is necessary to live. Thriving is not being satisfied just surviving but reaching above this to make continual progress. It  can be defined as “to grow or develop well, to prosper or to flourish.”

Thriving happens when you:

  • have a life of purpose
  • are living in alignment with your core values
  • are meeting all of your physical and emotional needs to your satisfaction.

Over the years I’ve coached a number of people who wanted to thrive but felt ‘stuck in a rut’. They felt their lives were going nowhere. They were stagnating. They’d reached a point or plateau in their lives where they felt as if they were just spinning their wheels, as they watched life race by without them. They wanted more from life but were lost, uncertain as to how to move forward and embrace the future with passion, energy and excitement.

As these people discovered – you don’t have to struggle on alone. When you work with a coach you can break through the barriers and get your life heading in the direction you desire. Top sportspeople, entrepreneurs, performers all understand this. They know that to consistently perform at their best, achieve goals and thrive, having the support and guidance of a coach is invaluable.

Are you thriving?

  • Do you have something you’re passionate about?
  • Do you know what your core values are and how they're influencing the decisions you make every day?
  • Are your physical and emotional needs being met to your satisfaction?
  • Do you have one or more goals you’re working towards? Perhaps you have a goal to develop your business, advance your career, attain financial independence; work your way down your bucket list, be the fullest possible expression of yourself. How are you progressing? Perhaps you’re not progressing as quickly as you hoped? Often the biggest obstacles we face exist in our mind in the form of self-doubt, low self-confidence, limiting beliefs, fear of the unknown and irrational fears.

Do you need help driving the bus …..

I was discussing the benefits of investing in a coach with someone earlier this week and I used the analogy of a bus journey.

Your goal is the destination. When you work with a coach, the coaching relationship is like the bus that’s carrying you towards the destination.

You’re the driver of the bus. Your coach is the co-driver. The coach has the map and guides you as to which is the best and easiest route to take and how to avoid the traffic jams and roadworks.

Your job is to drive the bus and follow the coach’s directions. However, if choose not to get on the bus, it doesn’t go anywhere and your destination remains way off in the distance. And, if you choose to drive the bus without your co-driver you may get lost on your journey, go around and around in circles – or even go backwards!

That's why it's so important and beneficial to have a good co-driver with a good map.

In my opinion,  if you want to thrive “with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style,” investing in a coach is one of the best decisions you can make. You might say that as a life coach myself, I’m somewhat biased but, that’s certainly been my experience, as a result of working with my coach and mentor, Adam Eason.
