Does the thought of speaking in public turn you into a quivering jellyfish, cause sleepless nights and fearful days?

You’re not alone, the majority of people – including famous actors, politicians, pop stars, performers and even members of the royal family, struggle with public-speaking anxiety. If you are afraid of public speaking, you’ll be very familiar with the symptoms such as, a sense of dread, sleepless nights, nausea, heart palpitations, sweaty palms, brain freeze and loss of train of thought.

For many people the fear of public speaking is a massive, insurmountable obstacle to achieving the career and personal success, and happiness, they want.

Perhaps your public speaking fear has stopped you from taking advantage of career or personal opportunities? Or perhaps you’re already an accomplished public speaker but you want to start enjoying the experience rather than dreading it?

Stop reading for a moment and imagine yourself standing in front of a sizeable audience, giving a speech or presentation with cool, calm, confidence. Notice that you are actually enjoying the experience! Stay with this image for a few seconds more.

Now you may have found that scenario too difficult to imagine, but the fact is, you can it your future reality. That’s right. With the right mind-set, skills and support, you can become a confident, calm, in control, public speaker.

I know it’s possible, because I transformed from a shy young man into a confident public speaker who now seeks out opportunities to perform on stage in improvised theatre shows.

Prior to becoming a Performance Mind-set Coach I spent my days in the corporate world in London and Wellington where I would be called upon regularly to present to small teams and sizeable audiences alike. As a shy, unconfident public speaker, I found those early experiences terrifying. Over the years I became more confident with practice, but it wasn’t until I learned the skills I now share with my anxious clients, that I was truly able to master my public speaking anxiety.

So my take away message for today is public speaking fear is not something you have to live with. You can overcome it. And when you do, a whole new world of opportunities opens up for you.

Have a wonderful week
