Upcoming Workshop – Perform Under Pressure Without Stressing Out
I’ve been busy this week developing my latest one day workshop – Perform Under Pressure Without Stressing Out. The workshop will take place in Island Bay on Saturday 16 September and promises to be informative, fun, and above all life changing. You can register for the workshop here. Numbers are limited.
Video Tips and Techniques
I've also been busy this week recording some videos for my YouTube channel and website (you can watch them here). Getting up to speed with the 'how to' of recording, editing and uploading the videos has been a challenging learning curve. If I seem a little wooden in the first couple of videos my excuse is that I was getting to grips with being the simultaneous director, cameraman and presenter! By the third video I was more relaxed.
In the first two video's I share a couple of stress coping strategies that are quick to learn and practice.
- The 'Now' Game
- The 4-7-8 Breathing Technique
In the third video I discuss the danger in telling ourselves and others that we're stressed when we're not. Saying "I'm stressed" or words to the same effect has become a habit for many people. However, if at a subconscious level you believe stress is harmful or bad, you may be triggering the fight or flight response every time you say or think "I'm stressed." So the statement becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If this is a habit of yours I recommend you check in with yourself every-time you say you're stressed, or something similar, and if there's no immediate threat correct yourself by saying something like: "No, actually I'm just under pressure," or "No I'm feeling challenged."
When we perceive that we are challenged we trigger the Challenge Response which is much more useful and healthier than the Fight or Flight Response. And so my challenge for you is to change 'stressed' for 'challenged' and experience the difference it can make.
